The first Paisley Raye Shine Retreat was about a month ago, beginning of October. I’ve had a few weeks now to think about everything that happened, and continues to happen, with the Renegade Bellas after the event ended, and everyone went back to their families, homes and businesses.
I started building my Paisley Raye Renegade Bella Team March of 2018. I had never built a team before, because when I was with LuLaRoe, I couldn’t honestly look anyone in the eye and tell them, “Yes, this company is amazing and you will love owning your own LuLa Boutique come, join me!”. Nope. I was still figuring it all out for myself, so how the hell would I be able to lead, guide, and teach others to build and run a successful business without doing it myself first?!
I had confidence in my abilities and skills when I joined Paisley Raye, and I also had confidence in the company itself. I didn’t go out and recruit like one pictures in their mind when thinking of Direct Sales team building; I just shared all of the details when asked about the opportunity. The thing is, I had already built a following and reputation with LuLaRoe, so when I decided to change brands, others wanted to follow and join me in this transition.
I was up front from the get go. It’s YOUR business! YOU, and YOU alone, are responsible for your success and/or failures. I am here to help guide, inspire and support you, but as your sponsor, I absolutely will not do the work for you. I have my own damn business to run thank you very much! I wasn’t going to be a leader that preached what to do without actually doing and implementing the techniques myself. I also never claim to know everything, duh! We are all constantly learning, shifting and trying new things. I wanted my team culture to be unique, not a cultish following with a leader who had the only voice. Fuck No. My dream for this team was not to be the biggest. I was not going to focus on the number of members, but rather the quality of our team culture. I wanted to create THE flagship team for Paisley Raye, the team everyone else wanted, the team that showed everyone what direct sales was really about. In order for this to happen I had to create a place where we ALL had voices, we ALL had to share our knowledge, and we ALL had to lead trainings and give input. The Renegade Bellas Group is a melting pot of incredible, smart and talented business women, who support and build each other up all while running their own businesses and supporting families. Exactly what a thriving team culture should look like.
The Renegade Bellas already participate in a weekly team zoom with open floor discussions. We had a facebook group and a team Marco Polo. The Paisley Raye retreat was the last ingredient needed to solidify our team. At this Paisley Raye Retreat in Los Angeles, we were finally going to get to meet each other in person! We decided instead of staying at the event hotel that we were going to share a rental house in the hills. We wanted extra time where we could spend our evenings drinking wine, talking, laughing and ultimately bonding without the distraction or inconvenience of multiple hotel rooms and lobbies. We are not exclusive, don’t even think that! We had a couple (fucking fantastic) ladies who were not on our team but were in need of roommates and places to stay so of course we welcomed them with open arms (to tell you the truth we forgot they weren’t officially Renegade Bellas).
That weekend, jam packed with retreat events and social gatherings. 12 women of varying ages and backgrounds whom had never once met in person (some chose to stay at a hotel but were welcomed to join us at the “Renegade Bunker” to hang) sharing a house together would typically have the potential to turn ugly really fast. Not us. Nope. It felt like a damn sorority reunion trip filled with the most amazing, down to earth, fucking fantastically awkward friends you could imagine! There wasn’t any drama, there were no traumatized feelings or insults. We left this trip feeling refreshed, happy, and as if our souls had been refilled with much needed female love and friendship(trust me, very little sleep actually happened as most of us stayed up all night long deep in conversation). THIS is something that is rare and if you have ever attended a company retreat or direct sales convention you know it just doesn’t happen.
The Renegade Bellas sat as a team during Paisley Raye events that weekend. There were about 15 of us that were able to attend this event, so we almost always took up more than 1 table. We ate lunch together as a team not because it was pre-planned and organized, but because we all wanted to! We created this safe place to truly be ourselves without fear of acceptance or rather, fear of rejection. We embraced our differences and made the effort to really get to know one another, quirks and all. I want to really stress how in this team, we are all so vastly different from each other (ages, experiences, political views) and yet we can come together and have major discussions with opposing view points and behave like adults. Incredible right?! These deep discussions have opened my eyes to view points on situations I had never considered, allowing me to make informed decisions on important and controversial topics. I am pretty sure they too have experienced the same.
I walked away from this retreat with the biggest feeling of belonging and sisterhood I have EVER felt in my life. This is so much more than a company, a business, an income; the Renegade Bellas are my family, a true sisterhood and that is something sooo hard to find. It’s really what drives me to do what I do. Because in the end, true dependable relationships are worth far more than money.
My brain has been spinning, thinking up all these amazing training events I want to do with my team. I can’t wait to get us all together in-person again and next time, we will build in a lot more free time ….and wine.
